The Rooftop Busker

Just bought the 2015 New Writing Scotland collection. For the first time in a while I don't personally know
any of the contributors. But I DO know a lot of writers. In fact, I tutor two writing groups.

So ... here's the challenge. Which of them can I encourage into the 2017 edition - or might I take the plunge myself?

How Old Is The Friend

Just last night I told the WK Writers I couldn't remember how long the People's Friend had been on the go. This morning, as if they had been there, they posted the answer on their Facebook page :-)

"Happy birthday to us! The People's Friend is 146 years old today, and to celebrate, here's the front cover of our first-ever issue from January 13, 1869. We're so proud to be the oldest women's weekly magazine in the world!"

Variations On A Theme

Just before Christmas I asked the writing group to look at Christmas from a what's been done, what variations have been explored and what variations might be left perspective.

Here's a good example of a variation on an already crowded theme. You might think Marvel and DC had the superhero genre sewn up, but now Diamondsteel Comics bring us Saltire - Scotland's First Superhero.

From a quick glance through (it costs £9.99) is seems he is the spirit of Scotland called forth to battle the invading Romans and their gods.

There's always space for a new twist - if we have the imagination!

Finally getting some head-space after two book deadlines (and tiling my mum's bathroom.)

Ahhhhhh!

The first one was about the un-named people of the Bible. The second was a list of a thousand everyday blessings. Now, there's a challenge for anyone who wants to take it - come up with a thousand individual blessings.

I am blessed that it's finished! :-)
